Executive Erin Hicks receives the “Best of the Best” award for Alamo Hospice – Boerne office.
Alamo Hospice Boerne and Alamo Hospice Kerrville were both recently honored with Readers’ Choice awards by their local newspapers – The Boerne Star and The Kerrville Daily Times. The Boerne office won “Best of the Best” for the seventh straight year in a row and the Kerrville office was awarded the “Runner Up” for best hospice for the second year in a row.
Both teams take pride in the excellent care they provide to patients and families. A Kerrville teammate said that her nurses take care of those on service and their caregivers “like they are their own.” That deep commitment to the people they serve provides meaningful interactions and lifelong memories. A Boerne employee echoed the same sentiment and said, “The nurses become part of their family.”
Nurses, chaplains, social workers and office employees do whatever they can to be with patients and families at the very end. As one patient made her final journey, the music therapist and chaplain were singing by her side. For another family, their loved one had a sudden decline and so the chaplain rushed to the home to be there and pray with the patient and loved ones in the final hours.
The teams know how important it is to take care of the whole family, and not just the patient. One patient had a husband who wasn’t mobile and a son that lived far away, in another state. The nurse contacted the son, worked with the airline, and personally picked up the son from the airport so that he could be with his mother at the end of her life.

The awards were featured in both the Boerne Star and the Kerrville Daily Times.
And sometimes, the Boerne and Kerrville employees know it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. One of the aides goes above and beyond her regular expectations of bathing and cleaning and does regular haircuts as well. These stories are just a tiny snapshot of the extra-ordinary care that Alamo Hospice employees provide to their communities. In a fast-paced world, where it’s harder and harder to make face-to-face connections, our hospice team prioritizes building relationships and providing personalized support to not just the patient, but to family and friends.
